Physical pain and emotional stress are intricately connected messengers trying to lead you to a fulfilling, joyful life. My mind-body approach to pain relief is all about decoding these messages. Your current health issue – whether it’s vulvodynia, interstitial cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, back pain, adrenal fatigue, or something else – is a springboard to what I call a truly Healthy Life: mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
The cutting edge of mind-body health is scientifically based and gives you much more power over your own health than you ever dreamed possible. Strengthening your mind-body connection will help you address the physical stress your body is under – probably constantly! Without realizing it, you are most likely living in a state of fight-or-flight most of the time. What you think, how you deal with emotions, and emotional/stressful experiences from your life can be triggers that consistently turn on your fight or flight response. Your body holds the fight or flight energy in your nervous system, creating a constant sense of tension and anxiety. Your muscles hold the fight or flight tension. Your digestion slows down, your immune system can’t function properly, and you are susceptible to inflammation.
It’s actually quite easy to see how the body would then develop pain syndromes and illnesses! Strengthening the mind’s ability to become aware of the body, hear its messages, and stay in contact allows you to deal with issues in the moment rather than storing them in your body. It also takes away the need to distract yourself with food or other activities to avoid feeling emotions. As a result, you lose weight, create health, and live in alignment with your inner wisdom. Your mind, body, and spirit are all connected in a natural, healthy way.
